Welcome to the Kiel-Canal!

The Kiel-Canal, in Germany known as the Nord-Ostsee-Kanal, is the world's busiest artificial waterway. At a length of about 99 kilometres it smoothly links the North Sea and the Baltic. The Kiel-Canal was initially built in 1895 to support shipping, help to save miles and cut costs by avoiding the passage around Cape Skaw.

A trip through the Kiel-Canal usually takes about seven hours depending on the traffic situation. Total transit figures are impressive: In 2002 a total of 38,562 vessels passed the Canal, 26,219 of which in transit and in addition 12,343 in parts on their way to or from destinations located in the Canal.

The Kiel-Canal is a substantial link for the international shipping industry. A passage helps to save money and time, it avoids dangers and costly inconveniences of passages round Cape Skaw. SARTORI & BERGER is a government-licensed Kiel-Canal Agent. From the very first day of operation back in 1895 SARTORI & BERGER has attended vessels passing the Kiel-Canal – for about 110 years now! Equipped with great experiences and profound knowledge we are your perfect partner for any transit through the Kiel-Canal as well as for calls to all German ports
